District Ministries > Chaplain Ministries

Pastoral Chaplaincy Program

The purpose of the Pastoral Chaplaincy Program is to provide a safe, caring and available pastoral ministry to official workers and their families, which will serve as a front line of defense in the growing number of crises that are occurring among our clergy.  The District Chaplains are available to provide comfort, counsel, and confidential support to official workers during difficult times.  They are your brothers.  Most are former senior pastors whose ministries have been tried and proven, who by experience, are aware of the problems and pitfalls of pastoral ministry.  There has been an increase in the number of people taking advantage of the chaplaincy program. Some are seeking counsel and prayer, and others are using the Sutton/Ulrich Cottage at Mahaffey Camp as a haven of rest.  It may be helpful for every pastor, assistant pastor and staff personnel to have a chat with his/her chaplain.  Give yours a call!!

GOALS

  • To offer a compassionate District funded non-threatening ministry to our official workers and their immediate families that will communicate support, understanding and love.
  • To provide an opportunity for those encountering undue stress to vent without the fear of reprisal or incrimination that might otherwise threaten their current security or future ministry.
  • To suggest alternate ways of dealing with the pressures of ministry or life in general that might bring hope and healing to those who feel helpless and hopeless.
  • As a representative of the district family, to come alongside our brothers and sisters in time of need, and help bear their burdens, thus fulfilling the law of Christ.

The purpose of the cottage is to provide a safe haven for official workers and their families who reside in and are a part of the Western Pennsylvania District of the C&MA and who may need a place apart for rest, study, prayer and in general for one's personal pursuit of God.  This facility is made available without charge year round (except during the days of the summer camp meeting)  For reservations, contact Rev. William Wood by phone: 724-863-5179.  For more details download the brochure.
