Making Healthy Disciples Seminars
Before leaving earth to return to His Father, Jesus gave a clear
assignment to His followers. He told them to "go and make disciples of
all nations" (Matthew 28:19). Ephesians 4:13 gives a good description
of a healthy disciple when it encourages believers to reach "unity in
the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature,
attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." As new
believers begin to grow in Christ, they mature into healthy disciples who
desire to make other disciples, who will, in turn, make disciples, and so
on.
How does Jesus' assignment relate to us today? His words in Acts 1:8
instructed the early church to begin "in Jerusalem" and then move
out to "the ends of the earth." That means that all believers
have the responsibility to be "witnesses" and a part of the
disciple-making process both in their hometowns and around the world. Our
Jerusalem is where God has planted us today-right in our own backyards! Our
Jerusalem includes both the physical locations where we live and the local
churches of which we are a part. It impacts both the individual and the
entire local church family. As individual believers and as local church
Christian education leaders and teachers, we must take seriously our
assignment to "make disciples" of children, youth, and adults
among all people groups worldwide.
As an important member of the Christian education ministry leadership
team in your church, how would you respond to the following questions? How
do you think your ministry peers would respond?
1. How is your church carrying out Christ's command?
2. If the desired end product is a healthy, discipled student, what does
such a person look like at a given age level?
3. Are the ministry programs offered by your church intentionally
designed to make healthy disciples at every age level?
4. How do you design a ministry master plan that can ensure healthy
disciples are being made at every age level?
Making Healthy Disciples has been written to address the above questions
and to encourage and equip local church leaders and teachers to design
their local church Christian education ministries so that healthy disciples
are being made at every age level.
